HDR (High Dynamic Range) with Photomatix

I am currently using Photomatix as part of my post processing process to blend bracketed photo’s together to give me that surreal look that I like in photography that the average camera just can’t give you. This has become known as High Dynamic Range (HDR). I have met people in the local Baltimore area recently though http://www.meetup.com/ that primarily focus on this kind of photography and use the same Photomatix software that I am using.

Once you blend 3 or more photo’s together and start getting that surreal look, it is really no long a photo and now becomes a piece of art. Attached are a few examples of what I have done and give anyone who might be interested in what they could possibly do.

Have you ever photographed a high contrast scene?  If so, you know that even the best exposure gives you blown out highlights, or flat shadows, or both.  The solution is High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing:

Take multiple photographs at varying exposure levels

Merge the photos into an HDR image

Adjust the settings to get the look you want: from natural-looking with Exposure Fusion to painterly or surreal with Tone Mapping
